When I opened the email and I read congratulations I asked myself “for what?”, until I remembered that I had submitted Aventura, Amor y Tacos for the 2020 International Latino Book Awards. I immediately started jumping up and down and danced! I couldn’t believe it. I then told my abuela but she didn’t know what I was talking about lol. So I continued sharing the news with my friends and family.
I‘ve been breaking into dance at random moments of the day dancing like a loca in my room, in the shower, and the kitchen. I still find it hard to believe that this is real, not just the award but the whole part of me being an author!
It’s a huge honor being recognized for my story of going back to the rancho. It just comes to show #immigrant family stories matter!!!!!
With that, I am so HAPPY to share that my book was selected for the 2020 International Latino Book Awards in two categories:

Somebody pinch me!! 😆 More than anything I want to thank every one who’s read my book and shared what it meant to them with me. Every time a reader shares how the book impacted them, I gain more courage to continue sharing my story. But more importantly my heart is filled with gratitude for my rancho who shows me so much love and was the inspiration for my writing. You are all the reason I keep going!!
